Angus Matheson
Angus Matheson was born on Harris in 1912 and attended Inverness Royal Academy. He graduated from Edinburgh with an MA First Class in Celtic 1934 and continued his studies at the University of Bonn and at University College Dublin. He returned to Edinburgh in 1936 as assistant lecturer. In 1938 he was appointed McCallum-Fleming Lecturer in Celtic at the University of Glasgow. During the 1939-45 war he served in the Intelligence Corps until returning to the University of Glasgow. In 1956 he became inaugural Professor of Celtic at the University of Glasgow, and held the chair until his death in 1962.
