Professor Kenneth Mackinnon
A book of parliamentary laws printed in 1746 after the Battle of Culloden containing Bills of Parliament intended to exert control over the Highlands in the wake of the Jacobite Rebellions.
This book was published in 1715 and contains accounts about an expedition against the Jacobites, particularly the Clan MacGregor which took place in October 1715. It came to the college via the author John Prebble, but also contains information about another book collector by the name of James Dennistoun (1803-1855).
This book is a collection of three separate publications in one volume. The first part contains Strathspeys written by Neil Gow for fiddle, and is the first part of a series of six such publications. The second section contains Highland Songs collected by Patrick MacDonald and published in 1784. The third and final section contains Scots Songs arranged for voice and harpsichord by Neil Stewart.
This item is a collection of newspaper cuttings relevant to Highland and Gaelic life and culture from various sources arranged in a scrapbook. It includes traditional songs in sol-fa notation, articles on folklore, biographical essays and excerpts from publications such as “The Celtic Monthly”. The collection belonged to Iain Hamilton MacKay-Scobie and is dated “Bangalore, 1906”.
